Terrapin Social Finance is the result of a number of important partnerships. We were founded in Fall 2014 as Impakt Social Finance to act as intermediary between impact investors and investment-worthy developmental lenders. In 2015 we changed our name to Terrapin Social Finance to reflect the slow, steady and determined nature of social finance. Our mission remains the same.
Centre for Social Innovation – Regent Park, Toronto
Terrapin is a proud alumna of CSI Regent Park. CSI is a coworking space, community, and launchpad for people who are changing the world, with four locations in Toronto and a location in New York City. Terrapin enjoys tools we need to accelerate our success and amplify our impact. With CSI, we’re part of a movement of nonprofits, for-profits, entrepreneurs, artists, and activists working across sectors to create a better world. Visit Centre for Social Innovation
Indian Business Corporation
Terrapin is very fortunate to have established a collaborative partnership with Indian Business Corporation (IBC), a leading Aboriginal Finance Institute based in Calgary. By 2012 IBC had made approximately 2500 loans worth nearly $80 M since being founded in 1987. At that point IBC had not been too concerned with evaluating outcomes. Since that time IBC and Terrapin Social Finance have partnered on three studies concerned with establishing social and economic outcomes arising from developmental lending. A primary goal of our partnership has been to build an investment case attractive to resource companies operating in Alberta’s oil fields. Visit IBC
